Rule Name:Overall Level
Each character has an Overall Level which has three effects:
  • Saving Throws - Each character's saving throw is increased by overall level x 2.
  • Combat Skills Limitation - Combat skills (weapon skills, shield skills, Spell Energy, Spell Memory or any other skills typically used in combat) cannot exceed overall level + 3. For example, if Delana is overall level 7, then she cannot have any combat skills higher than rank 10. If she wants to improve a combat skills above rank 10, she must first improve her overall level.
  • Combat Spells Limitation - Combat spells (spells that cause damage or protection from damage) cannot exceed overall level x 2.




Overall level is based on a character's skills ranks. For levels 1 through 8, the character takes their 8 highest ranked skills. This skill list MUST include core skills of the character's profession, as indicated below. At levels 9 and higher, the number of skills matches overall level. For example, to be considered a overall level of 11, the character must have 11 skills of rank 11 or higher.

The term skills can also refer to spells or other special abilities that can be bought up in rank.

If there are more required skills listed below than needed for a particular overall level, you need only count the number needed. For example, a Paladin has required skills that add up to more than 8 after considering that profession counts as 3. They only need to use 8 of the required skills to determine overall level up through level 8. To achieve overall level 9, they need 9 skills of rank 9 and must use a required skill that they may not have been using previously.

Not all skills are equal when being counted:
  • Professions (e.g., Barbarian, Martial Artist, Paladin) count as 3 skills
  • Skills with a multiple of 500 or more count as 2 skills
  • Skills with a multiple of less than 200 count as half a skill

Dual-classed characters must use required skills from both lists.

Martial Artist
  • Defense

Paladin
  • Any 2 weapons or any 1 weapon category (All Swords, et.al.)
