Brie Larson, born Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers on October 1, 1989, is an American actress and filmmaker. She began her acting career in television, appearing as a regular on the 2001 sitcom "Raising Dad." Larson's early roles also included parts in the films "13 Going on 30" (2004) and "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" (2010). However, she gained significant recognition for her role in the independent drama "Short Term 12" (2013).
Larson's breakthrough came with her portrayal of Joy "Ma" Newsome in the critically acclaimed film "Room" (2015), for which she won several awards, including the Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Critic's Choice Award, Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and the Canadian Screen Award for Best Actress.
