Lilibet Snellings is an American author known for her unique blend of humor and insight in her writing. She gained prominence with her debut book "BOX GIRL: My Part-Time Job as an Art Installation," published by Counterpoint/Softskull Press. The book, a collection of humorous essays, explores her experiences in her 20s while living in Los Angeles. It has been well-received and even made it onto Flavorwire’s Top 15 Best Nonfiction Books of 2014 and Harper's Bazaar's "Hot List" in March 2014.
Snellings' background is quite diverse. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder and then went on to receive her MFA from the University of Southern California. Her journey took her to Los Angeles, where she lived for about eight years, engaging in various jobs including freelance writing, on-camera reporting, waitressing, and even acting as an extra in a commercial and a music video.
Her writing style is often compared to that of other contemporary authors such as Sloane Crosley and Lena Dunham, characterized by a self-effacing and wryly humorous tone. Her work has been featured in numerous publications including The Huffington Post, Los Angeles Magazine, Anthem, and Flaunt.
Currently, Snellings is working on her second book, which promises to blend humor with more serious themes, drawing on personal experiences including her diagnosis with multiple sclerosis at the age of 36. This book is expected to delve into a variety of topics including cancer, infertility, motherhood, and death, all underlined with her signature humor.
Apart from her writing career, Snellings is also actively involved in raising awareness and funds for multiple sclerosis through The Lilibet Snellings Kyte Foundation. This foundation organizes events like a 5K race to support runners living with MS.
After spending years in Los Angeles and Chicago, Snellings now resides in Richmond, Virginia, with her husband and son.
