About the cover model:

Roberto Clemente was a Puerto Rican professional baseball right fielder who played 18 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1955 to 1972. Born on August 18, 1934, in Carolina, Puerto Rico, Clemente was an iconic figure in baseball, known for his exceptional hitting, base running, and throwing abilities.
Clemente's career was marked by numerous achievements and accolades. He was a National League (NL) All-Star for 12 seasons, received 12 Gold Glove Awards for his defensive play in the outfield, and was the NL Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 1966. He was the first Latin American and Caribbean player to win a World Series as a starter (1960), receive an NL MVP Award (1966), and receive a World Series MVP Award (1971).
Over his career, Clemente amassed exactly 3,000 hits, a milestone he reached in his final at-bat of the 1972 regular season, making him the 11th player in MLB history at the time to achieve the feat. His career batting average was .317, and he hit 240 home runs and drove in 1,305 runs over his 18-year career.
Off the field, Clemente was known for his humanitarian work. He was deeply involved in charity work in Latin American and Caribbean countries during the off-seasons, often delivering baseball equipment and food to those in need. His life was tragically cut short when he died in a plane crash on December 31, 1972, while en route to deliver aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua.
Clemente's legacy extends beyond his statistics and awards. He was posthumously inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973, the first Latin American and Caribbean player to be enshrined. The Roberto Clemente Award, given annually by MLB, honors Clemente's legacy by recognizing players who best represent the game of baseball through sportsmanship, community involvement, and positive contributions to their teams. Clemente is remembered not only as one of the greatest baseball players of all time but also as a humanitarian and a pioneer for Latin American players in the sport.
