*********About the cover model*************************
Dzhokhar Anzorovich Tsarnaev, commonly known as Jahar Tsarnaev, was born on July 22, 1993, in Kyrgyzstan to a family of Chechen and Avar descent. His family had moved around several countries before settling in the United States. The Tsarnaev family, including Dzhokhar, his older brother Tamerlan, his sisters, and his parents, claimed asylum in the U.S. and eventually settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dzhokhar became a naturalized U.S. citizen on September 11, 2012.
Dzhokhar attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, a public high school, where he was known as a quiet, likable student. He was an avid wrestler and even received a scholarship from the city of Cambridge to pursue higher education. Tsarnaev enrolled at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where he studied marine biology. His life took a drastic turn when he, along with his older brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, orchestrated the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15, 2013.
The bombing killed three people and injured more than 260 others. The brothers carried out the attack using homemade pressure cooker bombs, which they placed near the finish line of the marathon. The attack led to a massive manhunt for the brothers, who also killed an MIT police officer, Sean Collier, in their attempt to evade capture.
Tamerlan was killed in a shootout with police in Watertown, Massachusetts, on April 19, 2013. Dzhokhar was found later that day, injured and hiding in a boat in a Watertown resident's backyard. He was arrested and charged with using and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction resulting in death, among other charges.
On June 24, 2015, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was sentenced to death for his role in the Boston Marathon bombing, although his death sentence has been subject to ongoing appeals. His case has sparked significant debate and attention, touching on issues of terrorism, radicalization, and the criminal justice system in the United States.
