About the cover model:

Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20, 1964, in Oakland, California. She is a prominent American politician and attorney who has made history in several respects. Before her current role, Harris served as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 to 2021 and as the Attorney General of California from 2011 to 2017.
Harris's mother, Shyamala Gopalan, was a breast cancer scientist who immigrated from India, and her father, Donald Harris, is an economist from Jamaica. Her parents' involvement in the civil rights movement in the United States had a significant influence on her upbringing and her passion for justice and public service.
Kamala Harris attended Howard University, a historically black university in Washington, D.C., where she majored in political science and economics. She then returned to California, where she earned her Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, in 1989.
Harris began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office before moving to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and later the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was elected as the District Attorney of San Francisco, a position she held until 2011 when she was elected as the Attorney General of California, becoming the first woman, the first African American woman, and the first South Asian American to hold the office in the state's history.
As Attorney General, Harris focused on issues such as criminal justice reform, consumer protection, and the rights of immigrants and minorities. She was known for her staunch stance on reducing recidivism, her efforts to combat gang violence, and her work to address environmental issues.
In 2016, Harris was elected to the United States Senate, where she served on several committees and was known for her assertive questioning of Trump administration officials and nominees, including during the confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
In 2020, Harris made history again when she was elected Vice President of the United States on the Democratic ticket with President Joe Biden, becoming the first female vice president, the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history, and the first African American and first Asian American vice president.
As Vice President, Harris has focused on a range of issues including the COVID-19 pandemic response, immigration, and expanding voting rights. She is known for her advocacy of social justice, her commitment to reforming the criminal justice system, and her efforts to promote economic and educational opportunities for all Americans.
