Peta Murgatroyd is a New Zealand-born Australian professional dancer, best known for her work on the American television series "Dancing with the Stars." She was born on July 14, 1986, in Auckland, New Zealand, and moved to Australia when she was 18 months old. Murgatroyd was raised in Perth, Western Australia, and began studying classical ballet at the age of four.
Her early training was rigorous, and she studied under the guidance of former principal dancer of the Kirov Ballet, Madame Lubov Nikonorenko. After 12 years of ballet training, an ankle injury forced her to shift her focus from ballet to Latin dance.
